Native freshwater fish are the hidden treasure of the fresh waters of Aotearoa. Many are known to burrow down in the rocks of stream beds or climb vertical rock waterfalls. They can be found from the mountain tops to the seas and most love playing in wetlands.
This outstanding calendar features twelve of New Zealand's freshwater fish, including the five migratory 'galaxiid' species also known as whitebait.
The fish were live captured in streams and rivers and photographed at the location, then released back to the same stretch of stream or river they came from.
The majority of these treasures are being threatened by pollution, irrigation, flood pumps, roads, bridges, dams, predator fish and climate change. Thank you for your support in helping celebrate and protect them!
