A special collaboration between BLUNT and Forest & Bird, celebrating our shared mission to protect Aotearoa New Zealand’s precious wildlife.
This year’s limited edition BLUNT Metro features a stunning canopy by New Zealand artist Tanya Wolfkamp, inspired by the beauty and fragility of our native sea and shore birds.
Sixteen species take flight across the canopy — from the endangered hoiho (yellow-eyed penguin) and tūturuatu (shore plover) to the elegant kōtuku (white heron) and tarāpuka (black-billed gull). Each bird has been lovingly illustrated to remind us of the delicate balance of life along our coasts and the importance of protecting these vulnerable habitats.
Tanya’s design began with layered teal and aqua waves, textured with watercolour salt to evoke sea spray and coastal mist. Each bird was then drawn by hand in pencil and ink, before being arranged into a harmonious swirling composition — a moving portrait of Aotearoa’s coastlines and the species that call them home.
“Hopefully people will feel cheerful on a rainy day — looking up through the canopy at seagulls and petrels swirling above, happily buffeted by the salt spray and wet weather,” says Tanya.
Beyond the artwork, this collaboration also supports hands-on conservation. BLUNT staff are joining Forest & Bird volunteers to help record native species, remove invasive weeds, and care for coastal habitats — protecting the places these birds depend on.
Together, this partnership is more than a beautiful umbrella — it’s a canopy of protection for both people and nature.
